Probing the equation of state of neutron-rich matter with intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions

چکیده
Nuclear reactions induced by stable and/or radioactive neutronrich nuclei provide the opportunity to pin down the equation of state of neutron-rich matter, especially the density (ρ) dependence of its isospin-dependent part, i.e., the nuclear symmetry energy Esym. A conservative constraint, 32(ρ/ρ0) 0.7 < Esym(ρ) < 32(ρ/ρ0) , around the nuclear matter saturation density ρ0 has recently been obtained from the isospin diffusion data in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. We review this exciting result and discuss its consequences and implications on nuclear effective interactions, radii and cooling mechanisms of neutron stars.

Simulations of collisions between nuclei at intermediate energy using the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation with neutron skin producing potentials.
Asymmetry dependent potentials, which produce neutron skins, are utilized in the Boltzmann-UehlingUhlenbeck equation in order to simulate intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. Compared to calculations done with the commonly used equation of states, the calculations which use the asymmetry dependent potentials produce neutron rich neck regions which reduces the orbiting of the major fragment...
متن کاملIsospin Physics in Heavy-ion Collisions at Intermediate Energies
In nuclear collisions induced by stable or radioactive neutron-rich nuclei a transient state of nuclear matter with an appreciable isospin asymmetry as well as thermal and compressional excitation can be created. This offers the possibility to study the properties of nuclear matter in the region between symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter. In this review, we discuss recent theoreti...
متن کاملConstraining properties of rapidly rotating neutron stars using data from heavy-ion collisions
Properties, structure, and thermal evolution of neutron stars are determined by the equation of state of stellar matter. Recent data on isospin-diffusion and isoscaling in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies as well as the size of neutron skin in Pb have constrained considerably the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy and, in turn, the equation of state of neutron-rich n...
متن کاملLight cluster production in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions induced by neutron-rich nuclei
The coalescence model based on nucleon distribution functions from an isospin-dependent transport model is used to study the production of deuteron, triton, and He from heavy-ion collisions induced by neutron-rich nuclei at intermediate energies. It is found that the emission time of these light clusters depends on their masses. For clusters with same momentum per nucleon, heavier ones are emit...
متن کاملProbing the Symmetry Energy with Heavy Ions
Constraints on the EoS for symmetric matter (equal neutron and proton numbers) at suprasaturation densities have been extracted from energetic collisions of heavy ions. Collisions of neutron-deficient and neutron-rich heavy ions now provide initial constraints on the EoS of neutronrich matter at sub-saturation densities. Comparisons are made to other available constraints.
